Lock 9, Lake Cullulleraine - Wedderburn - Home

Our trip with Cat & Keith and Jenny & Cameron started at Lock 9, Lake Cullulleraine and we thought it would be good to have our penultimate night there.  We pulled in and with just one van parked about 300 metres away, we nearly had the place to ourselves.

We commemorated with some smoked trout and a bottle of champers followed by a porterhouse and salad and a nice bottle of red and of course an open fire.
Getting the fire ready at Lock 9.
Clearly we were back in Victoria - it rained overnight - apart from the showers we had in Kalannie, WA, it's the only rain we've encountered in the 15 weeks we've been on the road. Still, we're sure it will simply be getting us ready for Melbourne's spring weather.

We had a quick catch-up with Peter McGuinness (2/22nd Lark Force) in Mildura which was great.

About the time we headed inland at Geraldton to see the wildflowers, Sandy and Jim  headed to Perth for some car repairs and to spend time with family.  They made good time travelling across the Nullarbor and caught us up at Wedderburn.

Our trip started at Hard Hill Tourist Park, Wedderburn back on 23 June 2017 and we wanted to "book-end" the trip with our final night there.  We collected some wood on our way in to Hard Hill and had a lovely fire to sit around for the evening.

Our final "The Lap 2017" campsite at Hard Hill.

What a fabulous trip we've had - what fantastic memories we have.  I now understand why people leave the southern parts of the country for the northern states during the deepest parts of our winters.

The treasured bits for John:  Bell and Manning Gorges on the Gibb River Road; Broome; Cape Leveque; Middle Lagoon; Tunnel Creek; and on and on ...

For Lorraine:  as above plus the Oodnadatta Track - Farina, Oodnadatta etc; Kata Kjuta; Kings Canyon; Palm Valley; Daly Waters; the Gibb River Road; Edith Falls; Dalhousie; Quobba Stations - in fact all the Stations ... too many bits really - it was all great!

We do the blog mainly for family and as our record of the trip - but we love that our friends too have logged on and travelled along with us. Thank you for your emails - apologies for not having posts more regularly but we just have to wait for power and internet connection before we can upload new posts.  I know that Blogspot is a pain in the bum to be able to "Comment" but we've been buoyed by your emails.  Thank you.  Big hugs - we're looking forward to seeing you all soon.
